Wings For You
You call me, aching, to
your side
Parting shadows as I
come;
To where your memory
echoes still
I move in trance, my
soul is numb.
You see me, for my eyes
enchant
As your sweet figure I
behold;
There, at crossroads in
my soul
The path it turns ~ The
way is cold.
You smile, as longing
filters through
My countenance, in
dream, alights;
To know I ached a life
for you ~
I lost the warmth of
love’s delights.
My cage is barred, the
night is still
Yet, early morning bids
me stay ~
My bird of love, you
fluttered true
When, in your fledgling
nest I lay.
You call me, yet my
spirit sleeps
Alone, ‘twixt earth and
moss and dew;
We made a love, yet life
I left
When tears I wept
~ Were Wings For You ~
